Funding overview

F-hub.org is a volunteer organization supported by your donations and non-monetary contributions.

Currently you can donate on LiberaPay here.

Since we are not an formal organization, the people receiving and managing the funds need to pay income tax on these, which results in a certain unavoidable overhead. You can find a summary of how the funds were used per year in this wiki book.

2026 report

2026 was the first year that F-hub.org accepted monetary donations via LiberaPay and initially also a now defunct FOSSpay instance.

Funds received

In 2026 we received XXX € from approximately XX individual donors.

With LiberaPay it is difficult to determine the exact reason of the donation, but from known user-names and similar hints we estimate that about half was donated in many small amounts by users of SLRPNK.net and the rest mostly by a few bigger amounts from long term FreeGameDev.net users / contributors.

After subtraction of an estimated XXX€ for income tax, the available funds were in total: XXX €

Hardware purchases

The following hardware purchases where made in late 2025 or during 2026 and refunded from donations received:

Total expenses for hardware: 535 €

Note: the 2 port 10gbit ethernet card and the 10gbit SPF+ adapter are not yet in use and were purchased as preparation for upgrading the main firewall server for 10gbit connectivity that has become available by the local ISP in 2026 for 55€/month.

Recurring costs

Domain costs (registered via OVH):

Domain costs include basic email service to send automated emails for sign ups etc.

Total domain costs: 65€

Internet connectivity costs for 1000/400mbit fiber line: 39€ per month, but this wasn't exclusively used for services operated by F-hub.org.

Power usage / costs

Since power usage is mostly via a photovoltaic system it is hard to estimate the exact costs and the capital expenses were not solely made for running the servers. During summer months there was an excess power even accounting for battery storage and thus no extra costs for running the servers occurred. When including winter months, it is estimated that approximately 80% (to be confirmed) of the total yearly power demand for the servers was covered by solar power. Given an estimated average power usage of 200W for the servers and networking equipment, the cost of the remaining electricity sourced from the local power grid was approximately 70€ for the entire year or about 6€ per month.

Defunct FOSSpay / Contributron instance and canceled grant

Early 2025 we successfully applied for an small NLnet grant to add GNU Taler support to a FOSSpay fork called Contributron. Due to lack of progress with this integration and no practical way to use it with Euros by early 2026, we decided to cancel this grant. No money was received as a result.

Despite this, we ran a trial with the Contributron instance using the existing Stripe integration, however when we ran into a bug that caused the monthly payments to be charged twice to the donators, it was shut down in early 2026 to avoid further issues. It is currently not planned to revive this payment option.

Hardware donations

In 2026 we received a NVIDIA 1650 4GB GPU (slim profile) as a hardware donation from a SLRPNK member. This card has been used to experiment with CUDA hardware acceleration of the LibreTranslate instance and to test NVENC hardware encoding for the F-hub.org Peertube instance.
